...a brand sticks. Now, you run on home to your mother and tell her … tell her everything’s alright. There aren’t any more guns in the valley.” — Shane
Yes, we watched Logan last night against the backdrop of another school shooting. After that, we watched John Wick, Chapter 2 with some something like 140 kills by John Wick. Two, with a pencil. The same pencil.
Since Hallmark Christmas movies are my usual genre, I was not watching something I would have chosen myself but was very much unable to not watch either movie. It’s easy to see how John Wick is a likeable, reluctant killer. Logan, too. They kill everyone in sight, but they really don’t want to.
So, school shootings.
Thought 1: Why aren’t schools safer? Some of the safest places in the USA are the military bases. What can we learn from these government institutions? They restrict access ✔️, they have thousands of soldiers skilled in weaponry ✔️, but no one on base is permitted to carry a weapon except the MPs.‼️
You mean, they are gun free zones?
Thought 2: Gun advocates are missing two important points. 1. They are the best people to come up with ways to protect their interests while limiting access to those that should not have guns. Who knows best what works, doesn’t work, and is well intentioned, but missing the mark? 2. They have the opportunity to lead the change and control its impact, or wait until someone else takes the lead - someone they may wish hadn’t. The tide will change.
