So Jay has been Evie’s protector and best friend since he was ten and they had no one else to rely on. When the book starts, you can tell they have had one another solidly in the fiend zone forever. The part of the story that best describes them is that Evie lives her life moving forward from the deficiencies of the past and Jay lives his life still influenced by them.
This is a friends to lovers book that is the best kind of slow burn. I couldn’t turn the pages fast enough to see what was next. Jay keeps it interesting by being a hothead that drinks and gets in trouble. Evie is always there for him without encouraging his bad behavior.
What happens to the best friends when they cross the line and feel something more? The highs and lows are magnified. Once they acknowledge they feel more friendly, the story takes an interesting turn. Very worth the read.
