Dirty Little Midlife Mess by Lilian Monroe

Wes and Simone met in book 1 of the series, Dirty Little Midlife Crisis.  Wes had become a virtual recluse and Simone decided to leave her life in LA to move to Heart’s Cove with her friend Fiona.

Simone is a snarky, sassy woman with a heart of gold. She thrives on her new independence despite the change from a once affluent lifestyle.  She has learned to value what she has worked so hard for.  Wes is still hurting from rejection by a fiancĂ© and the loss of his parents.  An upcoming inheritance looms at his 45th birthday.

Wes and Simone pretend to be a couple and we learn what has caused all of Wes’ pain and made him choose isolation and loneliness over the risk of a relationship.  Simone is not without her mental gremlins, but I really liked her because she didn’t hide much and the depth of her caring nature shined through her snarky facade.

The story makes me long for more from Heart’s Cove.  The women are all in the second phase of life - divorced, widowed, or just not having found the right one yet.  It’s so refreshing to read a hot, steamy romance with older men and women.
