In HIDDEN TRUTHS we find out the reason Sergei turns into a mindless killing machine and this is some great storytelling going on here. By the third book in the series it is clear that events in the stories are taking place concurrently. While reading the other books isn’t necessary to enjoy this one, it will show the excellent plotting and character development.
Each story has one or more flawed individuals and the person that balances or tames them. In this case, Angelica, the cartel leader’s daughter gets rescued by Sergei but proves she can take care of herself and Sergei, too.
Sergei is a killing machine, so there is an impressive enemy body count.
