The Summer We Fell by Elizabeth O’Roark

THE SUMMER WE FELL is a poignant and at times heartbreaking story of unselfish, unrequited love.  The writing is very good and I couldn’t have live the characters Luke and Juliet more.

The chapters alternate between “then” and “now” a difference in time of about 7 years.  This is not my favorite format because I don’t like the interruption in the feeling building in a romance.  It works with this story because secrets from the past drive the rollercoaster of Luke and Juliet’s relationship then and now.

The mood of the book is somber.  The romance is forbidden.  The chemistry is volatile.
