Prequels are funny things. Sometimes the author writes the Prequel after several books in the series have been written. In this case, we get the Prequel first. It is supposed to set the stage and introduce characters.
This Prequel feels like I am looking through sheer curtains and just can’t make out what I see clearly enough to make sense of it. It leaves me with more questions than answers, but it also draws me into reading the first book in the series, Darker I.
I have a feel that all the loose threads from the prequel will get woven together in subsequent books, so it served its purpose - to introduce the series and pique interest to read more.
