Beck and Hallman write these decadently dark mafia romances so well and book 1 of the Diavolo family, DEVIL YOU HATE was impossible to put down. Nicolo is cold, merciless and revenge is his sole purpose for acquiring Celia from her fiancé.
Part 1 of the series pertains primarily to the kidnapping and captivity leading up to the auction Nic is planning to sell Celia for top dollar due to her innocence. Nic has his work cut out for him as Celia challenges him, talks back, acts impulsively, slaps him, etc. He doles out he punishment and threats.
What was so good about this book was how quickly Nic took to Celia and thought of her as his girl (without being willing to admit it, of course). His possessiveness reached levels of warning his men not to even look at her. He kept moving forward with the auction despite that conflict. Celia and I keep hoping he will change his mind. You’ll have to read the book to find the shocking plot twist. Hurry up book 2.
