The opening pages of the book highlight the desperate circumstances Charlotte is living with and how she comes to meet Lucio. His daughter is then mysteriously left on his doorstep and Lucio makes use of his captive (Charlotte) to be her nanny until he learns more or decides what do with her.
If you love to see a clueless mafia Don slowly morph into a girl dad for a 6 year old girl, you will enjoy this. Lucio abhors any sign of weakness, but he abhors history repeating itself in bad parenting even more, so the gruff, “scary” mafia guy has to suck it up for his little girl.
The background story invokes betrayal, torture, and Mafia wars between Lucio’s family and the Polish mafia. Charlotte has secrets that become lies of omission. We are anxious to learn how much of that Lucio finds out and if she loses all his trust with himself a d with his daughter Evie,
The cliffhanger left things at am interesting moment, and I already have a few theories about what is coming up in part 2. This was a book that had my undivided attention and I’m ready for more.
