CRUEL KNIGHT is a very good friends to lovers/second chance story with the mafia, addiction and betrayal playing out in the background. Both Shane and Tara have complicated lives from the time they were children. Tara particularly has been through more than anyone should endure yet she continues to find the strength to soldier on.
Shane is possessive, obsessed and distracted by Tara but doesn’t want them to spend anymore time apart. It is interesting watching their parallel stories play out. The points of intersection start to pull them back together however reluctantly in Tara’s part.
I love possessive stalker types and Shane fits the bill. Tara fits my idea of someone trying to do what’s best but only knows the underworld way of functioning so her decisions are marred by that thinking. Good book.
