A KISS OF VENOM is a twisted, heartbreaking dark journey from a widow’s tragic loss, her deep descent into darkness and her fight against a forbidden love.
I loved this book for so many reasons, and it was also very frustrating to travel with Ghislane through her pain, guilt and loss after loss. We truly saw someone crumble under the weight of their immeasurable burdens.
Alexander is a gripping character. He breaks all the boundaries of obsession, possession and protection by a man for a woman. What Beena Khan did that other authors have been unable to do in such a portrayal is force the reader to see Alexander’s “evils” coming from a position of a man that never knew different. His version of right and wrong are normal for his world and in knowing Ghislane he first started to experience feelings for others’ pain and loss. We always assume bad guys have an awareness of being bad, but his character never knew a law abiding life and followed the rules his predecessors made to only serve the brotherhood.
The book is a real dark mafia feast with corruption, torture, mass killings, bullet between the eyes discipline, and bloody messes everywhere.
Ghislane and Alexander’s romance is indescribable - passionate, psychotic at times, and heartbreaking more often than not. The book is an unsettling, wild ride and worth every minute spent reading it.
