The Penalty Shot by Maren Moore

I liked the overall story of Auden, Alex and Asher.  Asher is the man that is honest to the core, and his relationship with Auden and Alex is what you see - no games, manipulations, etc.

Auden sort of annoyed me with the stuttering, crying  and low esteem.  She had been dealt a bad hand but she’d also been on her own with Alex for a decade.  He was thriving.  He and Alex got along, and the 10 year old seemed more mature and adjusted than his mother.

But, the thing that disappointed me most was the lack of actual hockey in the story.  Asher’s new family never went to a game or watched him on TV.  Something didn’t feel right about that to me.
