Jude and Sam met innocently enough not knowing they were connected by Jude’s daughter who was Sam’s best friend. Crossing paths again at his daughter’s wedding events gave us a secret romance fraught with pining and guilty consciences.
The book has a melancholy mood. Both the main characters are above playing games but think the daughter would be hurt with their romance. What starts as a thing that will end after the wedding quickly becomes much more.
The author makes us feel how drawn Jude and Sam are to one another. We also feel how they struggle to justify being happy while deceiving people they love.
