Nick was one of those characters that had so many layers to peel away through the course of the story starting with the facade of a ruthless, brooding CEO that resorted to borderline tactics to make his deals. His best and only friend had a sister who was smart, social, and kind. The light to his darkness.
Their animosity toward one another seemed like a shield for each, but for different reasons. What I liked a lot about this story is you could easily see that the mask Nick wore was the product of a difficult childhood and family life without the author having to find a way to describe his past. The reader just gets it from the few clues he gives which is fitting for his character.
This is Book 2 of the series. I read Book 1 first, but it is not necessary to do that to enjoy this story even though there are overlapping characters.
