Tangled book 1 by Emma Chase

TANGLED is told from a guy’s perspective.  A guy that never has to pursue a woman finds one he deems worth pursuing and all his “guy” tendencies contribute to some big missteps on his part.

The story is written like Drew is giving us the insight we don’t have into the male mind.  Kate is behaving like a pretty much all together woman with the exception of a 7 year engagement to Billy.

Drew messes up and tries to fix it later.  He goes to extremes to get Kate to forgive him.  The book is humorous and engaging.

Brent was one of my favorite male characters because he still had the humor of a mischievous kid, but was also such a charmer.  He and Kennedy were neighbors and friends as kids. In their teens things got rough and they went their separate ways each thinking it was for a different reason than it was.

They end up being opponents on a court case and the rest is the story.  APPEALED really focused on these two and their past and present relationships.

When they were together, they made rabbits look lazy.  Brent was a “just go for it” kind of guy.  He set out to win Kennedy’s trust.  She was smart and strong but not always confident about Brent because of their history.

There is also a danger/suspense element to this store putting usually unflappable Brent into protective mode.  I read the book in one sitting.

Jake is as rough around the edges, blunt and maybe a bit difficult as the best grumpy hero, but he does so many things against type from the very beginning of the book that he stray solidly into “book boyfriend” territory.

Chelsea’s situation - taking over as guardian for 6 children under 14 - is the perfect backdrop to this love story as we adore Chelsea for her loving devotion to this entertaining bunch of kids and swoon at Jake doing every “good guy” thing in the book all while insisting he’s not a good guy.

Jake harnesses his skills as a defense lawyer and applies them to parenting.  He and Chelsea are perfect together.  The kids are a handful, but happy.  What could possibly go wrong?  That’s your reason to read this book.
