First to Bid by Marie Johnston

I remembered Wes and Mara and the comic book store from the first book in the series.  Flynn was mentioned - more at the end because he designed and rebuilt Mara’s new Arcadia shop.  We didn’t really get the sense of what Flynn was really like and I like how the author made him in this book.

Tilly and Flynn were similar in that they had dark pasts that shaped their approach to life.  How they dealt with it is where they were different.  Flynn avoided any substantive relationships, kept to himself and threw himself into his work.  He had an exercise and food regimen that was very disciplined.  His satisfaction came in making lots of money.

Tilly became a free spirit - a glass half full optimist, consumer of processed foods like boxed Mac and cheese, and work hard at what she knew would be low paying jobs but her satisfaction came in the product of her work.

You will enjoy this book if you like stories where the couple manages to keep sabotaging themselves, apologizing, making up, then sabotaging themselves again until they get it right.  The plot of the story was of high interest to me, too.
