Alessia is an Albanian woman working as a “daily” for Maxim, a newly titled Earl. Both have danced at the edge of darkness recently and meet one another by chance when Alessia is cleaning Maxim’s condo and Maxim is still home. We learn of Alessia’s remarkable talents as well as the dramatic events leading her from Albania to England. We watch Maxim transform due to his brother’s death and new responsibilities.
This is a book that could easily have been dark and dreary. It becomes the story of the bright spot in each person’s life and “The sun sees itself not, Til heaven clears”. I absolutely love when a rake become smitten by an innocent and as the story peels back her layers she becomes truly magnificent.
There is suspense and drama taking the reader through Eastern Europe that added to my interest in the story. The ending was satisfying. I would say that the live developing between Alessia and Maxim could have been just as rich had some of their adult interactions been left out. Not made less steamy; not as many of them were needed.
