There are many books with the fake wedding date theme and I enjoy the whole fake relationship thing. What makes THE FAKE HEARTBREAK worth reading is the writing. Kelly Myers crafts an interesting female character in Marianne - independent, creative, effervescent, and willing to stand up for herself or someone else. The characteristics chosen for Leo could not be more opposite - conservative, controlled, goal driven and one who even makes the bed in a hotel room.
But what is so fine about this book is we are drawn in to feel what the characters feel. When Marianne is happy to get Leo’s smile of approval, the reader knows how that puts light in Marianne’s eyes. When Leo feels awkward seeing Marianne at the coffee shop, we feel his discomfort.
This is a great story made better by good writing. I’ll be looking at more of Kelly Myers’ work.
